Sustainable Tourism for Tourists

Sundio Group is very aware that tourism can have negative effects on Mother Nature. To minimize these effects, Sundio Group supports several charitable organizations that strive to protect the environment.

Climate Conscious
Sundio Group realizes that nature's beauty forms part of an unforgettable holiday and for this reason, supports the ClimateNeutral Group/GreenSeat.
The ClimateNeutral Group is a Dutch organisation that has been providing consumers and organizations compensation services on the voluntary market since 2002. The ClimateNeutral Group is viewed as one of the worldwide pioneers in this field, and is active in various European countries in addition to the Netherlands. The ClimateNeutral Group helps consumers and organizations map out the CO2 footprint of their organization, vehicle usage and products. ClimateNeutral Group labels include GreenSeat and WeAreClimateNeutral. GreenSeat offers an option to compensate for the damaging emissions produced during a flight by planting and protecting forests worldwide.

Respect the Mountains
The Alps are being subjected to a number of threats including increased numbers of ski resorts, skiers' conduct, the greenhouse effect and the increased number of snow cannons. It must be possible for future generations to enjoy the Alpine region combined with a sporting challenge. To this end, Respect the Mountains strives to create a healthy balance between recreational pleasure and nature preservation in the Alpine region. Our customers can make an active contribution to preserving the mountains by making a donation to Respect the Mountains when booking their ski holiday.

Sustainable Tourism for Tourists
Sundio Group also contributes by supporting the ANVR environmental programme. Once again, tourists play an important role and we try to make our customers aware of the issues mentioned below by publishing them in brochures and on our websites.

  1. Finished with your travel guide? Pass it on to somebody else.
  2. Give your car a holiday occasionally. Discover the pleasure of hiking, cycling, and bus and boat excursions.
  3. Go on holiday and enjoy the peace and quiet, space, less pressure, less driving and fewer traffic jams. This is exactly why school holidays are staggered. School holidays are listed on the ANVR website.
  4. Enjoy a holiday pre or post-season if you are not tied to high season.
  5. Of course, as a tourist, you determine how you go on holiday. Taking public transport to and from the airport is an environmentally friendly option. Consider the option of taking another form of transport to your holiday destination, such as bus or train.
  6. Who doesn't dream about the most beautiful beaches and the cleanest bathing when on holiday? The Blue Flag helps identify these locations easily. Please visit the website at www.blueflag.org.
  7. Never buy or take souvenirs home that are made from protected species, plants, coral etc. Leave animals, plants and coral in peace in their natural habitat.
  8. Clean water is a valuable commodity. At many hot holiday destinations, even in Europe, there is a lack of water. Use water sparingly and take a shower instead of a bath.
  9. Save electricity. Turn the lights, television and radio off whenever you leave your hotel room, apartment or holiday bungalow. Enjoy the summer sun and turn the air conditioning down a notch. A warm jumper in the winter snow consumes less energy than turning up the heating.
  10. Respect the traditions and culture of the local populations. Adapt your clothing style and only photograph people with their consent.
  11. Taste and promote the local cuisine when on holiday.
  12. Shop in local shops and stimulate local employment and economy.
  13. Use rubbish bins. Litter is a major source of irritation at home and abroad. If you go hiking in country areas, or visit holiday towns and villages, then do not leave any litter behind.
  14. Respect the Mountains (see information above).
